Microsoft 365 web apps on a computer screen

Do you use Internet Explorer? Microsoft warn that you could be blocked from Word, Outlook and PowerPoint this month!

Microsoft have warned that users of Internet Explorer 11 will find themselves blocked from accessing Office 365 applications or having a downgraded experience.

Why is this happening?

This change is happening because the Internet Explorer browser has become outdated over the years – with Microsoft’s new Chromium-based Edge and rival browsers.

Why have Microsoft released a warning?

Latest stats show that millions are still using the ageing browser, with it accounting for 4 percent of the total market.

What will happen if I don’t switch browser?

Microsoft have said the following:

“Beginning August 17, 2021, Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) and users may have a degraded experience, or be unable to connect to, those apps and services.

“These apps and services will phase out over weeks and months to ensure a smooth end of support, with each app and service phasing out on independent schedules.”
