Achieve in Science was set up by Peter Scutt, a Lead Practitioner in Science, with the support of the Shine Charity (Let Teachers Shine), to provide online lesson plans, lesson resources, worksheets with answers, revision materials and sample assessments, plus videos tutorials suitable for GCSE students of all abilities.

We worked with Peter to take his idea from concept to completion, developing the website using the reliable WordPress platform with bespoke development to enable subscriber management and billing facilities with tiered access to content based on the type of subscription held be the logged in user. The site was integrated with PayPal and Stripe for both one-off and recurring subscription payments.

With a wide range of GCSE science revision media needing to be provided to subscribers, including PDF and document files along with video tutorials, we implemented access control to these files so that they are only accessible to logged in users with the appropriate subscription. Thumbnail images and high-resolution preview images of PDF resources are automatically generated for use on the site and video transcoding was implemented to provide the most suitable video format based on the device and platform used by the visitor.

The site needed to be fully responsive, providing a complete and engaging user experience regardless of the device being used to access the site.

A virtual private server was configured to provide an optimal hosting solution for the new website and SSL security was enabled throughout the site to provide a secure learning environment for students
