How to Give Us Access to Google Search Console

How to give us read access to your Google Search Console data by adding our service address as a user, so we can include your site in our SEO monitoring.

To include your website in our SEO monitoring, we need read access to your Google Search Console data. This lets us see how your site appears in Google, which searches bring visitors, and any indexing problems, and bring those reports into our SEO monitoring tool for you. You give us access by adding one email address to your Search Console property as a user:

What this address is

This is a service address that belongs to our monitoring system, not a person. It is not a mailbox, so it cannot receive email messages and nobody will reply to it. You will not get any email from it either. Its only purpose is to be given permission in Search Console, so our tool can securely read your reports without anyone at O’Brien Media needing to log in to your Google account or know your password.

Google does not send the address an invitation, so there is nothing to accept. Once you have added it, access starts straight away. Please let us know when you have done it and we will confirm that the data is coming through.

How to add it

  1. Go to Google Search Console and sign in with the Google account that manages your website.
  2. Choose your website from the property list at the top left. If you have more than one property for the same site, such as a domain property and a URL-prefix property, add the address to the one you normally use. If you are not sure which, add it to each.
  3. Open Settings (at the bottom of the left-hand menu), then choose Users and permissions.
  4. Choose Add user.
  5. Enter [email protected] as the email address. Please copy and paste it exactly, as a single typing mistake means it will not work.
  6. Set the permission to Restricted, which is enough for us to read your reports. Choose Full only if we have asked you to.
  7. Choose Add. The address now appears in the list of users.

Only an owner of the property, or a user with permission to manage users, can add someone. If you do not see Add user, ask the person who set up Search Console for your site, or contact us and we will help you work out who that is. Menu names can change slightly over time.

Good to know

  • With Restricted permission the address can read your data but cannot change your settings, remove other users or request removal of pages from Google.
  • It does not give anyone access to your Google account, your email, or your website itself.
  • You stay in control. You can see the address in the list of users at any time, and you can remove it from the same screen if you no longer want us to have access.
  • Do not send messages to the address. If you need to talk to us, contact our support team or call us and we will be happy to help.
