Enter a domain name to see its registration details: the registrar, when it was registered, when it expires and its name servers.
In this article
Type a domain name into the box above and we’ll show you its public registration details: which company it is registered through, when it was registered, when it expires and which name servers it uses. This is what is commonly called a WHOIS lookup.
What the details mean
- Registrar is the company the domain is registered through. This is where you renew the domain or change its settings.
- Registered is the date the domain was first registered.
- Expires is the date the registration runs out unless it is renewed. If a domain expires, the website and email on it can stop working, so it is worth keeping an eye on this date.
- Last updated is the last time the registration record changed.
- Status shows any locks on the domain, such as “client transfer prohibited”, which stops it being moved without your say so. This is normal and a good thing.
- Name servers say where the domain’s DNS settings are kept. Our DNS lookup shows the records held there.
Good to know
- The lookup reads the registry’s live records, so it shows what is current.
- Since 2018, personal details such as the owner’s name, address and email are hidden for most domains to protect privacy. The lookup shows who a domain is registered through, not who owns it.
- If the domain isn’t registered, we’ll tell you, and it may be available to register.
