Frequently Asked Questions About Selling Your Web Design Business
Who is this service aimed at?
Our acquisition service is designed for freelance web designers, sole traders, and small web design agencies who are looking to step away from client work. Whether you are retiring, moving into full-time employment, dealing with a change in personal circumstances, or simply ready for something new, we can help you transition your client base to a team that will look after them properly.
How do I start the conversation?
Just get in touch. You can call Chris on 01793 239239, email [email protected], or use the contact form on this page. There is no obligation and no pressure. We will have an informal chat about your situation, your clients, and what you are looking for, and take it from there.
What does O'Brien Media look for in a potential acquisition?
We are primarily interested in WordPress-based client portfolios, but we have experience working with sites built on other platforms too. We look at the number of clients, the types of websites involved, the hosting arrangements in place, and the level of ongoing support those clients currently receive. There is no minimum or maximum number of clients required.
Will my clients' pricing change?
We work hard to maintain the same pricing your clients are used to wherever possible. During our initial discussions, we review your current pricing structure and aim to keep things consistent so there is no unwelcome surprise for your customers.
What is included in the migration process?
We handle everything. That includes a full technical assessment of each website, a detailed migration plan, communication with your clients, testing and validation of every site on our hosting platform, and ongoing post-migration support. You do not need to do the technical work yourself.
Do you only work with businesses based in Swindon?
No. We work with web designers and small agencies across the UK. Most of our initial conversations happen over Teams or video call, and the migration process can be managed entirely remotely. If you would prefer a face-to-face meeting, you are welcome to visit our office in Old Town, Swindon.
How does the revenue share work?
After an acquisition, revenue from the acquired client base is shared between O'Brien Media and the original business owner for a number of years. This covers both existing revenue and any new revenue generated from those clients. The specific terms are agreed on a case-by-case basis during our discussions.
What if I only have a handful of clients?
That is absolutely fine. We are happy to talk to designers with client bases of any size. Whether you have five websites or fifty, the same careful process applies.
What happens if a client wants to leave after the acquisition?
We treat every client as an individual. If a client decides they want to move on, we respect that completely. Our goal is to earn their trust through excellent service, not to lock anyone into something they are not happy with.
Can I refer clients to you instead of a full acquisition?
Yes. If you would prefer to introduce individual clients to us rather than transferring your entire portfolio, we are happy to work on that basis too. We also have a Refer a Friend programme that rewards you for successful introductions.
