Going mobile – Google is calling time on non-mobile friendly websites from 21st April

Until now Google has focused on labeling mobile-friendly websites in results, but from 21st April 2015 if your website is mobile-friendly you’ll get a ranking boost over your non-mobile friendly competitors in search results pages when Google’s latest algorithm change takes effect.  The aim of this shift towards mobile users is to show people browsing from their phones or tablets websites that offer visitors a mobile friendly website and provide them with a better browsing experience.

We’ve previously blogged about Google’s move towards highlighting mobile-friendly websites in search results shown to users on mobile devices.

Referring to the change in their ranking algorithm, Google said it believes that the new rules will mean “users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”

To prepare, you can use Google’s mobile friendly website testing tool. You can also take a look at Google’s mobile guidelines.
