Why blocking JavaScript and CSS files

If you got an email from Google, saying Googlebot can’t access your CSS and JS files, you’re not alone. Google recently began sending emails to verified webmasters and website owners notifying them if Googlebot, their search engine crawler, has been unable to access JavaScript and/or CSS files on their websites.

It seems many WordPress, Drupal and Joomla users have received such notifications. This due to the way these systems block access to folder has CSS and JavaScript stored within in.

Google is contacting webmasters because almost a year ago they began rendering the full page (as a user would see it) and In October of last year changed their webmaster guidelines to advise webmasters to not block files that affect the design and layout of their websites.

Keeping current is good for business

The logic here is simple, if Google cannot fully see your website, it may not be able to fully understanding it, and result in “suboptimal rankings” as Google puts it. In other words your position in Google search results may be negatively impacted if Google can’t access all of your website files which in turn could lead to less visitors and be bad for business.
