Twitter changes its fonts and colours across its web and mobile platforms! Are you a fan?
Twitter has announced that they have changed all of their fonts on their platforms to the new ‘Chirp’ font and also updated their colours.
What is the new Chirp font?
It is a new font that has been entirely developed by Twitter and moves away from the reliance on other typefaces.
Twitter’s Derrit DeRouen said in a tweet “Our key objective with this brand refresh is to improve how we convey emotion and imperfection. Regardless of whether you’re pro or anti Helvetica, I think we can all agree that it’s not up for the job.”
You can see his Twitter thread explaining the new font change and its development here.
What other visual changes have been introduced?
Alongside the font changes, Twitter has said in a thread previously posted on their design account that “We’ve updated our colors to be high contrast and a lot less blue — a change made to draw attention to the photos and videos you create and share,”
You can see a summary of these changes in a tweet from the Twitter Accessibility account.
Changes to the follow button
There have also been changes made to the follow button that may confuse a lot of people!
Normally, when you already follow someone, the follow button’s background is normally white and not filled in. When you aren’t following someone, the background of the button is blue.
Now, Twitter has changed this around, so it is the opposite way. So, make sure that you do not accidentally unfollow someone!
