SEO Monitoring: Your site is returning the 400 error code.

If you’re seeing missing data in your SEO reports or receiving connection error messages, it’s likely that your website’s firewall or security service is blocking our SEO analysis tool from accessing your site.

What’s happening?

Our SEO tool needs to connect to your website to gather important information about your pages, performance, and search engine optimisation. When services like Cloudflare or certain third-party hosting providers are in use, they sometimes mistake our SEO tool’s automated requests for malicious bot traffic and block access.

You might see error messages like “There was a problem connecting to your site” or notice that some analysis data appears to be missing from your reports. Behind the scenes, your site may be returning a 400 error code to our tool, preventing it from completing its analysis.

Why does this happen?

Modern security services are designed to protect websites from harmful bots and suspicious traffic. However, these same protective measures can sometimes be overly cautious and block legitimate tools like our SEO analyser. This is particularly common with Cloudflare’s security features and some third-party hosting platforms that include built-in firewall protection.

How to fix it

If you’re using website hosting not provided by O’Brien Media, you’ll need to whitelist our SEO tool’s IP addresses in your firewall or security settings. This tells your security service to allow our tool through so it can properly analyse your site.

Add these IP addresses to your whitelist:

  • 49.13.56.96
  • 49.13.118.216

The exact steps for whitelisting IP addresses will vary depending on your hosting provider or security service. If you’re using Cloudflare, you’ll find these settings in your firewall rules section. For other hosting platforms, look for firewall settings, security rules, or IP whitelist options in your control panel.

Once you’ve added these IPs to your whitelist, our SEO tool will automatically retry the connection. If it successfully connects, the missing analysis data will be added to your reports.

Still having trouble?

If you’ve whitelisted our IP addresses and you’re still experiencing issues, or if you’re not sure how to adjust your firewall settings, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help get your SEO analysis up and running.
